Last night I transformed an old Hornby goods shed into something new. It was a pretty standard building in the Hornby range, with its recognisable shape and brick texture, and I decided that needed changing. I don’t want my railway to look the same as anyone else’s. So I designed and printed off some new textures to cover up all the walls and roof.

To refresh your memory, here’s what it used to look like (although this photo is of a slightly newer model with different colouring).

On mine, the brickwork was a pretty unconvincing brown stone, and the canopy was yellow and broken. So I found some suitable textures on the Sketchup Textures website and created some new panels to stick over the top. I printed it out on card, cut them out, and glued them on with PVA. I also went over the card edges with a black pen, which made it look a lot better, as you’ll see from the photos below.
