Comic debate

As those of you on Facebook may have noticed, I have been putting a series of comic strips up on the web just recently, making use of the new scanner I bought the other week.  I’ve been collecting material on and off for a while, and I have plans to use some of the quotes from the Campus Crew too, in some form or other (all anonymous of course).  Today I put another cartoon strip up, and I’m copying it up here too, so that my blog readers feel included.

Distration

This brings me to a debate I’ve been having with myself for a few weeks now, ever since I first started putting these comic strips online.  Do these random sketches deserve their own web site?  So far I’ve refrained from the idea, on the basis that it would imply a responsibility to keep it going, taking up even more of my precious time.  I wouldn’t say I was a natural comic artist, and my sense of humour can be a little hit and miss sometimes, and in that sense I’m worried that I’ll run out of material and leave it as yet another unfinished project, confined to the archives as one more adventure that I never got to the end of.  The original MiniPix web site is a prime example – a site hosting 32×32 icons of Minis – great fun to do and was met with much appreciation by the web community, but ultimately grew stagnant and boring and was relegated to history.

In theory a comic strip site wouldn’t be difficult or complex to set up, I would probably use a blogging system like this one (WordPress) and upload each piece of artwork as and when I got round to scanning it in.  In that sense I suppose it wouldn’t matter too much if it went stagnant for a while, and I could always pick it up again as soon as the inspiration came to me.  Technically I have the tools and the ability, I have web space sitting around doing nothing, I have a scanner and computer, I have pens and paper.  And at the moment I have time and inspiration, but I’ve no idea how long that will last!

So what do you think?  Should I pursue this idea and create a comic strip site?  Could this be the new face of MiniPix?  Or am I wasting my time on yet another fruitless project?  Leave your comments below, they will be read and inwardly digested, and washed down with a cup of tea.

  1. I can’t see the harm in it. Just make it a blog style, don’t put too much effort into the site, and update when you feel like it.

It’s not a big thing, if it does ‘stagnate’ you can always get rid of it 🙂 I’ve done that with a few sites!

  2. Ok, I’ve bitten the bullet and quickly whacked a blog site up for my comic strips. Still in development, I’ve used an “off the shelf” theme which I’ll start tweaking later, but I quite like it so far.

    So, check out gubbins.
