Avoiding the end of time

I went to see War Of The World yesterday with some friends – very good! It was very characteristically Spielberg, but the effects were good. I thought it was interesting that they started and finished the film in the same way, with a voice-over giving a prologue and epilogue explaining what was going on. Not sure that was entirely necessary, though I suppose it did get the point across fairly well. It kinda destroyed the beginning, because you knew what was coming, and the ending was a little comical – these amazingly powerful aliens with all their technical superiority, die from catching a cold! Oh, and there was a fantastic bit of dialogue between father and son at one point when they are trying to figure out what’s going on. The son says “What are those things? Are they terrorists?”, “No, they… they’re from somewhere else”, “You mean like Europe?”

Also had to sort out the Finance Section at uni today. They had sent me my P45 in the post, which was rather scary! Especially since I hadn’t actually finished work yet! I’ve still got another two months’ work to do, they can’t chuck me out just yet!! So I went up and explained the situation to them, so hopefully they will decide to carry on paying me after all…

Still waiting for my car. Still missing Ellie. Need a cup of tea.

  1. Argh!!! You’ve given away the end!!! Could we have a moments warning next time? (yes i know i’d still read it, but it’s always nicer to know whats coming…)

  2. Well seeing as it’s not the first time the story has come round, I kinda assumed everyone knew the ending already!! I certainly did! I think it’s been out as a book and a film already, this is the second film they’ve made of it. And a very good interpretation of it too, I thought.
