The sun has got his hat on

Well, summer finally came today. Well, for the day anyway. Beautiful, clean, uninterrupted blue sky, the sun gently warming my back, and the cold Essex wind chilling me to the bone!

My housemate cooked an almighty great fry-up breakfast this morning!! Oh my goodness, so much food! He had a friend round, and they had masses of mushrooms, several rashers of bacon, three sausages each, two fried eggs, some fried tomatoes, four mini pancakes each with freshly squeezed lemon juice, and hot toast with butter. And then once they sat down Ian had the cheek to say “Oh, I forgot to cook some beans!” They would have needed an extra plate to get any more on!

Also went into town and bought some new trainers. I think I have the wrong size feet though – size 6 is right at the end of the size range for kids shoes, and right at the bottom end for adult shoes, so I wasn’t exactly spoilt for choice… Still ended up with some nice shoes in the end, spent more than I was expecting, and also bought a brand name for the first time ever! Still, very comfortable, and a vast improvement on my previous pair.

Then went onto campus to join some folk from CU for a BBQ by the lake. Very pleasant. I quite enjoyed my veggie burgers too – they weren’t anywhere near as fatty as normal burgers, which in some ways was quite nice, and there was the reassurance that it wasn’t half meat and half scrapings from the floor! The guys did get me playing tag rugby though, IN MY NEW SHOES! Not used to running really, and as quick as I was at times, it took me a lot longer to get my breath back than I was hoping!! Still, besides the cold breeze it was a lovely day, and I even managed to wear my sunglasses most of the day.

  1. Well, I’m not sure I can completely justify classing myself as a vegetarian, as most ‘real’ veggies would chastise me for eating fish and not really holding up all the values that go with it. However, if you were referring to the fry-up, I had already had breakfast by the time Ian started cooking (it was just for him and his friend). And at the BBQ I had veggie burgers. 🙂

  2. I’m not sure who it was who posted that first comment on this Blog post and I know it looks lke me, but it wasn’t! Or at the very least I have absolutely no memory of posting such a comment. How mysterious! I hope I’ve not become the victim of this identity fraud thing!
