Those path signals are a bit complicated to explain in words, a video might be more effective, might have to see if I can download a screen-recording program and show you a working example of the signals in operation.

And yes, Hertzsprung, I am using some NewGRF files, and some new engines and stuff. Can't remember exactly what I'm using, though...

Yay, TTD. I didn't know about these new signal types. I like to play TTD more as a sim than a pure cargo-moving game, and these signals sound more realistic. Looks like you're using some alternative GRF files, too?

Speaking of steam, (ahem, well Phill did...) they do this sort of route reservation in the real world. You should get out there more Matthew, you might enjoy it! Anyways, say you have a route shared by a number of 125mph express trains and a steam-hauled excursion which is limited to 75mph. The train controllers (real people) will know that the express trains will need to take precedence over the steam special and will, at suitable places, divert the steam special to a siding or slow line to allow the expresses to hammer along unhindered. Is that what your system does?

Hehe, actually I'd quite like to see what you've done with OpenTTD! I never had the patience to get very far with it. I always got about half way through building a super-awesome railway network and then just sort of ran out of steam.
